Sling World Cup is a physics-based football tournament game from Rujo Games where you control three players by dragging and releasing them across the pitch. You pass, defend, and shoot using the same simple sling movement while trying to work through seven tournament rounds and win the final.
The control system looked almost too simple when I first tried it. My biggest mistake was using maximum power for nearly every movement. Shorter drags gave me much better control, especially when I needed to keep a player between the ball and my own goal instead of launching everyone forward.

Three Players Change The Usual Sling Football Formula
Sling World Cup gives you control of three teammates.
You do not move them with arrow keys.
Instead, you select one player, drag in the direction you want to move, and release.
The player then launches across the pitch.
That same movement handles:
- Attacking
- Defending
- Passing
- Shooting
- Repositioning
Rujo Games describes the game as a 3v3 football title where you control all three teammates using drag-and-release movement.
How To Play Sling World Cup
A typical attack works like this:
- Select one of your three players.
- Drag away from the direction you want them to travel.
- Adjust the length of the drag.
- Release to launch.
- Contact the ball or move into a useful position.
- Switch attention to another teammate if needed.
Longer drags create more powerful movement.
Short drags give you more control.
The official Rujo Games release confirms that the longer your swipe, the more powerful the move becomes.
Controls
Desktop
- Hold the left mouse button near the player
- Drag to aim and set power
- Release to launch
Phone And Tablet
- Touch the player
- Drag to aim
- Lift your finger to release
The current Poki version supports desktop, phone, and tablet browsers.
Mozilla’s Pointer Events documentation explains how web applications can handle mouse and touchscreen input through the same browser system.
Do Not Launch Every Player At The Ball
This was the easiest mistake for me to make.
When the ball becomes loose, sending the nearest player toward it feels natural.
Then the second player looks close enough too.
Suddenly all three teammates are on the same side of the pitch and the goal is completely open.
A better setup is:
One player challenges the ball.
One supports the attack.
One stays in a safer defensive position.
You do not need perfect football positioning, but keeping some spacing between players makes counterattacks much easier to handle.
Short Drags Are Useful For Defending
Maximum power is exciting, but defense often needs the opposite.
A short drag can move a player just far enough to:
- Block a shooting lane
- Reach the ball
- Guard the goal
- Stay between an attacker and the net
Large movements can send your defender past the ball entirely.
I found it useful to think of power as a tool rather than a score.
More power is only better when the extra distance actually helps.
Passing Can Be Safer Than A Direct Shot
Sling World Cup lets you pass between teammates rather than forcing every attack toward goal.
Poki specifically describes passing as part of the game.
That becomes useful when a defender sits directly between the ball and the net.
Instead of forcing a difficult shot, move the ball toward another teammate with a cleaner angle.
I started scoring more consistently once I stopped treating every touch near the penalty area as a shooting opportunity.
The Ball Keeps Its Own Momentum
Because Sling World Cup uses physics-driven movement, the ball does not stop simply because your player has finished moving.
A powerful hit can send it much farther than expected.
That matters when passing.
If your teammate is nearby, a full-power launch can turn a simple pass into a giveaway.
For close-range play, I prefer smaller movements and cleaner contact.
Choose From 18 National Teams
The game includes 18 national teams.
Rujo Games’ original release describes them as an 18-team worldwide national selection.
You choose a team before starting the tournament and then select your three players.
The team choice mainly gives the tournament its international football theme rather than creating a detailed licensed simulation.
Player Appearance Has Plenty Of Variety
Rujo Games says Sling World Cup can generate around 10,000 different player combinations.
That comes from the game’s randomly generated player appearance system.
It is a visual feature rather than a deep squad-management mechanic.
You are not building a roster around detailed statistics.
The important part remains how you position and launch the three players during matches.
Seven Rounds Stand Between You And The Trophy
The tournament contains seven rounds on the way to the final.
That gives Sling World Cup a clear structure.
You are not simply playing endless standalone matches.
Each victory moves your selected national team further through the competition.
The controls remain the same, so improvement mostly comes from getting better at:
- Controlling power
- Keeping defensive shape
- Passing
- Choosing shooting angles
Protect The Goal Before Chasing Another Attack
One of my more frustrating mistakes was scoring or almost scoring, then immediately launching every player toward the loose ball.
The opponent could then send the ball straight back toward an empty goal.
Before committing another player forward, I now check:
Is anyone still between the ball and my goal?
If the answer is no, I usually keep one teammate back.
That simple habit prevents many easy goals.
Longer Swipes Are Not Always Better Shots
The official controls make it clear that a longer swipe gives you more power.
Power helps when the goal is far away.
It can hurt when the angle is tight.
A strong shot may:
- Hit a defender
- Travel wide
- Rebound badly
- Leave your player far out of position
When I am close to goal, I care more about the direction than maximum force.
Use The Side Of The Ball
You do not always need to hit the middle of the ball.
Approaching from one side changes where it travels after contact.
This can help you:
- Angle a shot around a defender
- Pass sideways
- Clear the ball away from your own goal
- Redirect a loose ball
The physics make contact angle almost as important as the drag direction itself.
The First Touch After Losing Possession Matters
When the opponent gains the ball, I try not to immediately attack with the nearest player.
Instead, I look at which teammate can block the most dangerous route.
Sometimes that means moving toward the ball.
Sometimes it means dropping closer to goal.
That small defensive decision is especially useful because Sling World Cup puts you in charge of both offense and defense.
Original Creator And Development Credits

This makes Marco Rossi the central creator behind the project rather than simply a publisher name attached later.
Release Date And Update History
Poki currently records:
- Release: April 2021
- Latest update: May 2021
A localized Poki record provides the more exact release date of April 14, 2021.
Rujo Games’ original itch.io page also credits the project to 2021, which agrees with that timeline.
There Is Also A Windows Version
Rujo Games publishes a downloadable Windows version of Sling World Cup through its official itch.io page.
The developer describes it as a 3v3 soccer game for Windows, while also directing players to the free browser edition.
That means the browser version is not the only edition.
For Mopoga, however, the relevant supported browser devices remain:
- Desktop
- Phone
- Tablet
Sling World Cup And A Small World Cup
Both games come from Rujo Games and use drag-and-release football controls.
Mopoga’s A Small World Cup gives each side only one ragdoll player.
Sling World Cup gives you three teammates.
That difference changes the strategy significantly.
In A Small World Cup, the same character has to attack and defend.
In Sling World Cup, you can:
- Leave one player back
- Use another to challenge the ball
- Position a third for a pass
If you already understand A Small World Cup’s sling mechanic, Sling World Cup adds more positional decisions without making the controls much harder.
Sling World Cup And Sling Drift
Mopoga’s Sling Drift also revolves around dragging or swinging movement, but it uses the idea for racing rather than football.
Sling Drift is mainly about timing one movement around corners.
Sling World Cup uses directional launches across an open pitch while you manage three characters and the ball.
The shared word “sling” therefore describes a control idea rather than similar game objectives.
Is Sling World Cup Multiplayer?
The verified Sling World Cup listing focuses on a tournament against game-controlled opposition.
I could not verify an online PvP or local two-player mode in the current browser edition.
For that reason, it is best described as single-player tournament football.
That is different from A Small World Cup, whose current Mopoga version includes local two-player play.
Current Sling World Cup Rating
Poki currently lists Sling World Cup at approximately 4.1 out of 5, based on more than 84,000 votes.
That number continues changing as players submit ratings.
It should be treated as a current Poki snapshot rather than a permanent score.
Three Mistakes I Would Avoid
Using Maximum Power For Every Move
Short movements give you much better positioning.
Sending All Three Players Forward
Keep somebody between the ball and your own goal.
Shooting Whenever You Touch The Ball
A short pass can create a much cleaner scoring angle.
Those three changes made my matches much less chaotic.

Rujo Games is currently associated with:
- Sling World Cup
- A Small World Cup
- A Small World Cup 2
Poki’s current developer listing connects all three games.
The common theme is simple physics-based football controlled through dragging rather than traditional movement buttons.
What Makes Sling World Cup Different?
The most important difference is controlling three players with one very simple interaction.
Drag.
Aim.
Release.
That is all you need mechanically.
But those three players create much more to think about.
You need someone near the ball.
You need an attacking option.
You usually need somebody protecting the goal.
For me, that positional layer is what makes the game more interesting than simply launching players as hard as possible.
About Sling World Cup
Sling World Cup is a 3v3 physics football game from Rujo Games where you choose from 18 national teams and work through seven tournament rounds.
Every player is controlled by dragging and releasing, with longer movements producing more power.
The controls are easy to understand, but good results depend on spacing your teammates, using controlled passes, choosing useful shooting angles, and keeping at least one player ready to defend.
The biggest improvement for me came when I stopped treating all three players as attackers. Once I kept one teammate in a safer position, losing possession became much less dangerous.
